Mark Hoffmann is an award winning author/illustrator, webshow host, and professor. Mark has illustrated a long list of picturebooks including Boogy & Tee and Twinkle & Hew (written by Kathy Stinson, Groundwood 2026), Soren’s Seventh Song (written by Dave Eggers, Cameron Kids, 2024), A Penny’s Worth series (written by Kimberly Wilson, Page Street Kids, 2022) and many more. Mark’s author-illustrator books include Fruit Bowl (Knopf, 2018) and Dirt Cheap (Knopf, 2020). Mark likes to experiment with materials, but generally leans on collage, acryla-gouache, and colored pencil to create his images.
Despite Mark’s education he is still a 4-year old at heart. He lives for potty humor jokes and singing dumb improved songs to his family. He would eat colors if he could. Mustard yellow looks especially tempting even though he doesn’t like mustard. In the meantime, he makes the colors the star of his work. Mark has a fondness for textures, strange perspectives and hand-lettering in his illustrations. He also likes burritos, a lot.
When he’s not working on books, Mark works as a collegiate professor of illustration where he enlightens the next generation of artists, but more importantly makes dad jokes in class. When Mark is not creating, teaching, or parenting, he spends his free time trying to catch up on the sleep he has been neglecting. Which is by far too much for the average human. He currently lives and works in Southern New Hampshire with his lovely wife, sprightly son, two cats, one smart dog, and one not-so-much dog.
