Helena Juhasz is based in beautiful North Vancouver, British Columbia on the edge of wild mountains and thick forests. She loves to create fun and silly adventure stories and fascinating worlds where the sky is the limit. Her writing strives for opportunities to transport and interact with the reader.
She draws inspiration from the local forests, where the trees practically talk to her, and from wonderful city parks and cultural city living, including her love of museums! She works in both traditional and digital media, starting on paper then often finishing an illustration digitally. Although she has been known to pull out the oil sticks and get into some expressionist painting as well and has a secret obsession with graffiti art.
Growing up, Helena always dreamed of being a cartoonist and she particularly loves storytelling through cartoons and sequential art - from early readers to middle grade. She studied Illustration and Children’s Book Writing at Emily Carr University and University of British Columbia after a previous career in Physical Therapy and Kinesiology.
Helena lives with her husband and daughter and their two dogs: Twig & Zym (an endless comedy show) and the resident crow, Larry, who likes to leave them little shiny presents sometimes. She is co-owner of the family business, a bicycle shop, and she is an avid mountain biker and skier.
When she is not drawing or biking you can find her expanding her bee garden and trying to grow some fruits and veggies. She is a ten-year sequential art educator at the elementary school level and is a long-time member of SCBWI.
Helena is proudly represented by Ethan & Heather Long (ethan@tugeau2.com, heather@tugeau2.com).
