Angela Carstensen enjoyed twenty years as a high school librarian, creating community through books and reading. 
Currently, Angela is writing YA narrative nonfiction. She is a member of SCBWI and the Writing Barn’s Courage to Create community, has participated in workshops at Highlights/Boyds Mills, and attended the 2025 Community of Writers Nonfiction/Memoir Workshop as recipient of the Christina Meldrum Memorial Scholarship. 
A passionate advocate for teens and young adult literature, Angela served as chair of the first YALSA Award for Excellence in Nonfiction for Young Adults committee (2010), the 2018 Michael L. Printz Award committee, and published two books with ALA Editions: The Readers’ Advisory Guide to Teen Literature (2018) and Outstanding Books for the College Bound (2011). She writes for Booklist magazine. 
Angela grew up in rural Pennsylvania and pursued a career in classical music before realizing she wanted to be a librarian. She lives with her husband near the beautiful Hudson River, and enjoys art museums, musical theater, travel and creating a great salad.
