Alejandro Mesa is a Colombian illustrator born in Soatá, a small town in the mountains of Boyacá, where he grew up surrounded by his family's paintings and a library full of literature and art manuals. With a background in Graphic Design and Character Design from U-TAD, he learned early on to find the extraordinary in the everyday.
Working primarily digitally, Alejandro’s art is a celebration of vibrant color, strong character silhouettes, and visual storytelling. His work often connects cultural heritage with universal narratives, creating worlds where magic and everyday life are the foundation of his inspiration.
He has had the privilege of collaborating with publishers and brands, including Disney (illustrating the Little Golden Book for Encanto), HarperCollins, and Macmillan (Balzer + Bray), PRH and Epic!. He also created the visual universe for the Latin Grammy-winning children's project, Los Nuevos Canticuentos.
Alejandro currently lives in La Calera, Colombia. He works from his home studio alongside his biggest inspiration—his wife—and their French bulldog, Flora. When he isn't illustrating, you can likely find him immersed in a good board game—Everdell is his absolute favorite—enjoying classic animation, or simply trying to capture the wonder and happiness of his inner child.
